FlukeBK120 SmartTrace Breaker Finder and Socket Tester

After some other reviews, I was a little worried that the "breaker finder" functionality wouldn't work very well. But it worked great for me!I was a little puzzled by the instructions at first, but it made sense after I tried it. You put the plug in your power outlet, and it sends some kind of signal over your house wiring between that outlet and its breaker. Then you go to the breaker box and use the wand to "sniff" each of the breakers in turn. The wand seems to calibrate itself continuously, so that the strongest signal it's been exposed to so far lights up as "green". Depending on what order you go over the breakers in, there may be two or three greens the first time through. But once you've done them all once, only the strongest one will still light up green when you go back over them the second time. If you don't follow the instructions and do it twice, you don't get the benefit of the calibration effect, so you'll be trying to guess which green is the correct one.

Very happy so far. It filters the return signal and on the second pass only shows the strongest signal to point you to the correct breaker. Quickest and most user friendly breaker finder I’ve used.

So simple to use. easy to set up and the battery compartment back locks so if you drop it or if it’s in a tool bag you won’t have to go searching for the batteries and back piece. This immediately located the circuit an outlet i wanted to replace was on. The plug in signal sender also doubles as an outlet and GFCi tester. No more trips in and out of the house hunting down the correct circuit. One caveat if you have double stack breakers, it won’t differentiate between which one so worst case you’ll be turning off two circuits. Also a lot of tools come with storage pouches that I almost never use, this is one case where a storage pouches would have been appreciated. Good value especially considering all the time you will save.

I try to research about this product before purchase but I could find enough so I ended up buying it and test it by myself, oh boy I’m in love with it, has non contact volt detection as a plus to the main feature (find breaker) very easy to use and good materials conform this device, it’s a little more expensive that Klein or Milwaukee but once you have this in your hands you know you steeped to another level.

I expect greater quality or in this case, strength, from Fluke. The range of pickup on this is so short it can't detect through an outlet. I wanted this for dual use, see which breaker belongs to an outlet and see which outlets are on the same circuit. A work around is I use a 6 inch extension plug and plug that in first then I can check for signal.Also, for kits that come with more than one part, Fluke needs to make cases for this stuff.
