Very comprehensive Encyclopaedia
We were recommended this Encyclopaedia by a friend who is a keen gardener. We have found it extremely useful and comprehensive, in identifying plants we've seen and liked (sadly, we don't know that many plant names) . Great to have so many illustrations, too. The advice on size of the plants, which soil and aspect is best for planting, etc. is absolutely brilliant. There's also a section recommending plants for different habitats: as we've moved to a house near the coast, we can now avoid making incorrect choices!Thoroughly recommend this Encyclopaedia to both gardening enthusiasts and total amateurs, as ourselves.

A book, by a pipe user, but that tends to make me smile as it was obviously used and loved by somebody before me just as much as I do now. Whilst this book is probably getting a bit dated, it is still to be very much trusted. My second volume over the past 40+ years and one which could be found on several family members book shelves. It's classed by many as being a plant person's 'bible',

Useful book
A quick guide to a huge range of plants, ideal for finding out if the plant you saw at the garden centre or online would suit your garden. Includes information on size, colour and cultivation notes and there is at least one photo or drawing of each genus (but not every species listed). There are also special sections on popular plant groups such as roses and dianthus, or wider subjects such as gardening under glass or topiary.
