Great quality sight words game that kids beg to play!

This game is good overall, but the function where you are supposed to be able to "fish" through the clear plastic doesn't work very well. I think the magnets aren't strong enough for the fishing pole to be able to drag the fish to the hole.

I’m always on the lookout for hands-on activities that make learning more fun, and this sight word game does just that! It’s a great way to teach sight words, and I love that it has different levels, so it will grow with your child. The fishing poles and fish are sturdy and durable, though younger kids may need some supervision. Fortunately, the fish only have metal, and it’s just the cat and poles with magnets, but they could still be a choking hazard around babies, so be careful with the set. Overall, a fun and interactive resource!

Such a fun little game for kiddos! The fish are made of wood making it really durable. The colors are great and makes learning fun

There are different levels of sight words and it appears the levels 1 words should be easier. There were no directions on how to use this and I’m not sure what the purpose of the wooden cat is for and the purpose of the ten picture cards. The magnets work well and the kids still enjoyed playing with the game. It’s easy to put away and store which is a plus in a classroom or play area.

The little wooden magnetic fish in this game are great. Color coded levels and bright colors make it fun and easy to use. It has the entire alphabet plus four word levels, all listed on cards. The levels seem a little random, as levels 3 and 4 have some two letter words and level one has five letter words. But intelligent parents can rearrange these grouping so it's no big deal. This also applies to the lack of instructions. A little creativity and it's not hard to figure out how to have fun with it. The box doesn't look like it will endure as long as the pieces, however, so I expect I'll need to find a new container eventually. Given the various levels, this is a game that will grow with your child for several years, making it well worth the investment. I've sorted each color (and the alphabet set) into small zip bags so that we can focus on just one set at a time. Be aware of the choking hazard for smaller children.

Like other reviewers, I would caution that this an open-ended toy with no instructions, but that's something I love about it. I mean, my kids didn't need instructions to open the box and start playing constructively. I will still give it 5* because of the quality of the materials.My older children played similar games years ago to this one, but I made it by hand, and it's time consuming to do that. I used to laminate fish with words or letters on them, and then tape paper clips to them in order to fish with a homemade stick with a magnet taped on the end. This toy is a lot more compact, easier to put away and store, and the fish are made of wood! I love it. And it's not hard to make up games to play with these fish.Sight words are an important part of learning to read because they are common words seen often, AND a lot of them aren't very phonetic so it is ideal to memorize them. Once they are familiar with these words, you'll be hard pressed to find a book that doesn't contain at least some familiar words. In our early reading days, we'd read books that interested my littles, and they would read all of the words they knew, and I'd read the rest.The level cards don't really contain words that are much harder in level 4 than in level 3. Okay, I suppose "because" is harder than "no". But overall, these are simply words that need to be memorized, so they could be learned in any order. Level one words are all blue, level two are orange, etc. So it's fairly easy to separate the words if you want to make up a lesson based on the levels.I like the plexiglass and the "fishing hole" for the cat. The fishing pole magnets aren't strong enough to go through the plexiglass, so the cat is special, and I think the cat sets this fishing game apart from others I've seen on the market. It's really cool to be able to read words through the glass and retrieve them this way.As with any well-made educational toy, you get what you put into it. I've made so many educational reading manipulatives over the years, and while my kids loved them, they *are* time consuming to make and difficult to store in a way that is easy to retrieve years later. At least for this homeschooling mama. This game is big enough to find easily, but small enough to store in the cupboard until you need it, rather than digging in the toy area for the fishing pole and the filing cabinet for the fish like we've done at my house! I love it. Highly recommend for early readers, although some adult supervision is required if they are tiny children. This is such a fun little toy for learning and practicing sight work recognition! It comes with so many words and I love that the words are color coded by difficultly. I was easily able to sort through the words and find the ones we were working on in my kindergarten classroom because of the color coded word list cards and matching fish.My students were so excited to play with this and I turned it into a fun little game for my reading centers. The wooden fish are small but sturdy and well-made with the metal eyes securely embedded in the fish. This makes it easy to use any magnet to pick them up. The fishing rods are small and don't have a reel or anything, but they work great.I like that there are different ways to use the fish. One way is by using the fishing rods to try to "fish" for a word. You could do this in the box they come in, spred them out on a table or floor or ecen put them in a sensory table. I would not recommend using the fish in water or in any wet sensory environment because they are made of wood and the paint seems like it would not stand up to water. Another way to use the game is with the included cat magnet. There is only one, but it is cute! You can spread the fish out flat in the box and cover it with the included plexiglass cover. The plexiglass has a hole in it like for ice fishing. Then, you can use the cat magnet to attract a fish through the plexiglass and drag it to the hole. The kids liked playing both ways.This is a cute and fun little game for classroom or home that is a pretty reasonable price. My only complaint is that the box seems like it could fall apart over time with play.
