A great selection of colours.
I purchased these for my five-year-old daughter to supplement another set ofStaedtler pencils (Staedtler ergosoft 157 SB24 Coloured Pencils Box 24 whichare splendid), but do require frequent sharpening due to their softness. They last a lot longer than the set referred to earlier and are supplied with asturdy protective tin. This set has the ABS anti-break-coating that really does prevent the leads frombreaking if the pencil gets dropped (and they do in our house!) and I can saywith my experience of both sets of Staedtler pencils, none have internally brokenleads. The range of colours is marvellous, especially on the purple-pink range.Recommended.Incidentally, we use a Swordfish Model: Ikon - Mechanical Pencil Sharpener - Code: 40100to keep both sets ready to use.

Perfect Pencils
Staedtler is a well-respected name for office equipment in general, and drawing products in particular -and these colouring pencils continue the high standard. No-one should be left wanting as there are 36 different colours from white to black in all sorts of shades. The pencils are 6½ inches long with traditional hexagonal cross-section, and come in a slim well-made tin box with grooved insert from which they are easy to remove and replace. What lifts these pencils above the norm is that the leads are coated with some material (visible as a white ring around the point of the lead) that the manufacturer claims will ease sharpening and avoid breaking. This claim is valid - and furthermore, the leads are accurately positioned at the axis of the pencils and there is no lob-sided sharpening.

Brilliant for all!
These are great value for money and high quality. I bought these for the kids school stuff but we all use them including me! Excellent range of colours too.

Very nice pencils
A very good range of colours, and the pencils work smoothly across the paper. I wasn't due to get them until next Thursday but they arrived today, Sunday. Great delivery service as usual from Amazon. On the downside, the tin is pretty useless as the pencils fall out easily. Also, my tin was damaged and three of the pencils look as if they have been used before. The points on them are worn down. I am not sending them back as I am otherwise pleased but feel that Amazon should know.

Colouring pencils of quality
My girls love to draw and colour but they were finding a lot of pencils were poorly made - when the lead is off-centre they don't sharpen properly ...THESE pencils are properly made, the lead is central, they don't fall into two halves and they sharpen very nicely.FURTHER the colour goes on well to a wide range of papers and the colours are bright and saturated.RECOMMENDED!

Highly Recommended
Finally colouring pencils that do not break all the time. Well worth the money and the box makes the children treat the pencils with care.

Be careful of damage
A little frustrated when I bought these as when they were delivered I found almost half of them broken in transit. I was in hospital for an extended period so couldn’t return them. The other thing is soft isn’t the word - a week in and they are already well worn down so a little disappointed but other than that they are nice to hold, comfortable and give a good colour range.

Good Pencils for the Price. Durable, with a Good Assortment of Colours but the Leads are Hard
I am constantly being surprised by Staedtler's budget brands of coloured pencils. They are incredibly affordable- almost dirt cheap in some instances, and did not expect much as far as quality, and the Noris Club brand of pencils did end up surprising me in a good way. I am a big fan of Staedtler’s Ergosoft pencils, but the down-side to them, they are expensive, and they are limited in their colour selection. Their maximum set is the 36-pc, but presently, it is not available in Canada/North America, which is why I have ventured outside of the Ergosoft bubble and purchased their cheaper yet more comprehensive sets.I did expect these colours to be more muted than the Ergosoft, and other higher end pricier pencils. Pencils that cost about $20 for a complete set will never compare to those that cost $100, $200, $300+ for a full pack; still I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The colour lay-down was smooth. These are wax based, and the leads are harder, much harder than most, even their budget-friendly Mars triangular series, so a bit more pressure is needed to apply the colour onto your paper. However, if good artist quality paper is used, the colours come out better. The vibrancy does vary from colour to colour and there were some noted misses. One very common complaint, and this is common across all of Staedtler's budget priced pencils, is the name of the colours are not branded on them. Staedtler does list the numbers of the Noris Club colours on their website but note only the 12 and 24-pc sets have a colour listing in the North American site; to get the listing of this set/tin of 36 you have to visit their UK site. The positives: The price is great across all Noris Club sets. These come in packs of 12, 24, and 36; all are reasonably priced including this tin of 36 (#145). For those starving artists (raises hand), this means you can get a complete set, with a reasonable amount of colour options at your fingertips for a fraction of the cost. Their durability are these pencils’ greatest attribute. Unlike the triangular series, and much like the Ergosoft, these come with the ABS – Anti Break System; a white protected coating that decreases the chances of these leads breaking. I was able to get a fine, sharp point with little to no breakage. Even the pricier artist grade brands cannot deliver in this aspect, as lead breakage is very common with the Prismacolor Premier, as well as their Verithins (personal experience), and I had similar quality control issues recently with the Derwent Colorsoft pencils.Although the colours are not as creamy as one would expect, many of the colours are nice, apply smoothly, blend and layer well with each other and other brands. I have read reviews that state these pencils do not layer well. I did not have any issues with the layering. In fact, I was able to layer several different shades of orange, and yellows, and apply blues, & purple for shading, with no issues at all. Yes, the colours are not as vibrant as the Ergosoft, but I expected this, and for my fast sketches, these worked absolutely fine. Note: The image included is an incomplete still life I am working on using solely the Noris Club pencils of this set. I am planning on adding the Ergosoft to make the colours even more radiant later on but as stated, I had no issues layering and blending these colours. When I compared the swatches of the Noris brand with the other Staedtler pencils: Mars Triangular, Triangular Watercolour (1291-fish on the cover), Ergosoft, Karat Aquarell, these performed well. I would say they are definitely less vibrant than even the triangular series, with some colours showing weaker pigments and the pencils are noticeably harder. The strongest colours were the yellows, blues, oranges, and black.I love to use various brands of coloured pencils in my sketches, and I find these Staedtler pencils fantastic, mainly due to the brilliant, fine point you are able to get on them. They are perfect for details, and trying to colour in smaller, compact areas, and at times, I do want a more muted colour. Variety is key here, and I find these pencils are a great addition to my artistic arsenal. I would never expect a brand of budget pencils like these to compete with the likes of the incredibly fine (and expensive) Faber Castell Polychromos, or the more outrageously priced, Caran D’ache Luminance. They are completely different artist tools, of much higher calibre, made for fine art (the price should be a dead give-away) but all have their pros and cons. I dig into these Staedtler products often- mainly the Ergosoft and their artist grade Karat Aquarell water-colour pencils, when my art and creativity calls for it. These Noris club pencils are harder edged pencils, and the lay-down and output will not be suitable for all sketches and to all tastes, which is why I recommend these mostly for coloring books, for the younger artists, and sketches. If you know this before hand, you may not be shocked by their less then buttery application but still be impressed by the relatively smooth (but harder) lay-down, and brilliant durability.Out of all the budget pencils I have tried, the Staedtler brands are my favourite. This 36-pc set tin is pricier than their traditional box set, but if you’re into collector’s edition tins, or are a completist like I am, the few extra dollars are worth it. For budget pencils, the Mars triangular does out-do the Noris Club series in the quality of the colours & colour selection and are priced roughly the same. For the more serious artist, I would recommend their scholastic Ergosoft brand, and their premium Karat Aquarell- these are expensive, but more than make up for it in their brilliant colours, and performance.*** 1/2
