Bought this for my 2011 21.5" iMac. Having studied many online tutorials, learned how to open the case and prepped all the relevant tools before installing this, it made doing the job a lot easier. The item itself is excellent, and does exactly what it says it does. The HDD adapter fitted the Macs frame perfectly and was very sturdy in holding in the new SSD I put in it. All the screw holes lined up perfectly and it was an easy install. The Mac is now running like a new machine.Re-using the superdrive in the supplied caddy means my Mac loses no functionality. The caddy itself is plastic but for the price and what it does, I cant complain at all. As I am very careful with all my computer peripherals, this wont be an issue. I can imagine someone less careful may cause damage to the superdrive, if they mishandle it. All in all, for the money it is an excellent pair of products that have enabled my Mac to be like new again. VERY highly recommended

Great if you are wanting to remove super drive from your mac and replace with another drive. I have just used it to replace mine with a 500gb SSD, and this makes it such an easy process. The bonus of this coming with a conversion kit that makes the superdrive an external drive is inspired. Please note, if you are wanting to do this, you do have to change some stuff on the mac itself, but that is easy to do, using instructions that are available on the web. I don't feel for me this means I have lost anything, as I wasn't using the super drive anyway and now I still can if I need to.I found this a good value product and the replacement process was pain free and simple. I would recommend, if you are worried about doing this, as this does not come with a single instruction, you look on the internet and you tube for guidance on how to do this.Also a top tip, as this involves you having to take out a load of tiny teenie weenie screws, a magnetic screwdriver is a good idea, and a small cup or even an egg cup to hold said screws, as they are that tiny, they are easy to loose.I didn't need to use the tools that came with it, as already had the necessary ones, but these have been added to my toolkit as I can see they can come in useful.

I ordered this item as I wanted to breath life into my 2008 Macbook Pro, Stage one was to fit a 250GB SSD, Stage two was to replace my DVD with a 1TB HDD for storage. Stage 3 is to install 8GB Ram. This is the stage two review.I received my adapter two days early, (nod to a very fast delivery) so I quickly fitted it using a Youtube video to install it. well its don't have any instructions so I will assume that its for it professionals. the screwdriver and little plastic device which I don't know the name of works a treat and are made of good quality materials, I only wish that the screw bits was magnetic as that would be a great advantage when removing and replacing the screws.. As for the product, well it fitted in fine and worked first time. The DVD was fitted into the drive is working a treat, Im afraid that the youtube video did not have this part on the movie but its easy to fit. I will download the driver for recording DVDs later today but as a player it worked right out of the box. A nice little bundle, very handy!I have just installed it in my MBP and everything seems ok so far, booted with no problem, mounted immediately and had fit into the optical drive slot with ease.The tray you get to convert the removed optical drive into an external one is definitely a bonus! I was looking around for an external drive and it was looking to be another expense, but with this you have it all in one and makes use of that drive you have just taken out!

Great kit for the price. The caddy works fine and is well enough made, and DVD drive case is the only bit I'm not 100% happy with (it works well, but when the disk is ejected it catches on the plastic case at the front and gets sucked back in - I can hold the plastic out of the way with my finger to let it out though).The screwdrivers that come in the kit are surprisingly good! Some of the screws are VERY easy to ruin with a bad screwdriver, so this is very helpful.I used it to upgrade my 2011 macbook pro to dual SSD (I got the apple SSD, and added a crucial mx100 256GB). Helpful hint: there's an issue with some MacBooks, where they can't take a 6gb/s SATA3 drive in the optical bay (mine is one of these). I checked in System Profiler, and the Apple SSD is a 3GB/S drive. If that's the case, take the built-in drive out and put it in the caddy, and replace it with the fast new drive.

These are good products.The SSD adapter caddie worked perfectly for me. Note: you should screw in the side screws to hold the SSD in place otherwise one of them sticks out to prevent you getting the caddie into place properly.The DVD external case is well made. It is plastic but looks like the aluminium on the iMac. I don't intend to use the Superdrive much but I think is worth keeping working just in case!To get your Superdrive to be recognised by OSX (which was expecting it to be internal) you have to do this for OSX El Capitan - the instructions I found at: https://hardwrk.com/en/Tips-Tricks/You do the following, which is straightforward:1. Il kit è completo di tutto l'occorrente ovvero cacciavite di precisione per aprire il Mac, utensile di plastica per disconnettere i vari cablaggi, adattatore per il nuovo HD e custodia per il superdrive, che a tutti gli effetti diventa una periferica utilizzabile anche con altri pc. Con le guide che si trovano online tutta la procedura è stata portata a termine in pochissimi minuti, le asole per le viti e tutti i vari componenti sono perfetti nelle dimensioni e il risultato finale è notevole. Nel mio Macbook unibody del 2008 ho inserito un SSD con solo il sistema operativo e i programmi dentro all'adattatore (che è SATA III quindi più veloce di quello di serie) e ho tenuto il vecchio disco (formattato) come archivio dati nell'alloggiamento standard, adesso sembra nuovo sia per prestazioni che per tecnologia, un ottimo upgrade a bassissimo costo. L'occasione di aprire il case è servita anche per pulire la ventola e assicurare al Mac ancora tante ore di lavoro.

Kit necesario para sustituir de un macbook la unidad de DVD (llamada Superdrive) por un disco duro Sólido y rejuvenecer unos cuantos años el portátil.El kit viene con:1 - Adaptador con la misma forma que la unidad de DVD donde encajaremos el disco duro SSD y que será lo que sustituiremos en el ordenador por la unidad Superdrive. Importante que no todos los adaptadores son iguales y depende del modelo de ordenador, por lo que es fundamental pedir el correcto.2- También viene con una caja USB donde colocaremos la unidad Superdrive extraída y así seguir teniendo el DVD, aunque en esta ocasión será externo.3- Juego de destornilladores (me ha sorprendido la buena calidad) para quitar los tornillos necesarios en la operación.4- Palanca de plástico que nos ayudará a la hora de desconectar la unidad Superdrive del Mac. Ce caddie est idéal pour remplacer le lecteur optique d'un MacBook Pro par un disque dur (HDD ou SSD), tout en gardant le lecteur optique utilisable dans un boîtier SATA/USB.Une fois le lecteur optique déposé et le disque dur installé et vissé dans le caddie, la pose de ce dernier se fait sans problème. Trois vis maintiennent le caddie en place. Il faut simplement récupérer deux choses sur le lecteur optique déposé : la nappe SATA -> carte mère, et le crochet de fixation à l'arrière. Attention à la nappe SATA -> carte mère ! Elle est très fragile et doit être manipulée avec précaution. Dans tous les cas, il vaut mieux regarder deux ou trois tutos en vidéo avant de se lancer dans la manipulation si c'est la première fois.Concernant le boîtier SATA/USB pour le lecteur optique, même s'il a la couleur d'un boîtier alu "made in Apple", il n'en a pas la saveur : c'est du pur plastique. Cela n'est néanmoins pas un problème pour l'usage restreint qu'on fait généralement d'un lecteur optique.

Vorab die Leidensgeschichte mit meinem MacBook Pro Late 2012 - also 6 Gbit SATA III fähig....Einbau einer SSD Samsung 840 Pro 250 GB anstelle der Original Festplatte.Nach kurzer Zeit startete der Mac nicht mehr und das SATA Kabel wurde auf Garantie ausgetauscht. Danach lief es wieder ein paar Wochen aber dann wieder Datenfehler bis zum nicht mehr Starten. Die Originalfestplatte lief an diesem Anschluss fehlerfrei. Die SSD lief in einem externen USB Gehäuse ebenfalls fehlerfrei.Als zweiter Versuch wurde dann eine Crucial M500 ausprobiert. Die lies sich gar nicht erst ansprechen...Mein Reim auf dieses Verhalten: Das vermaledeite SATA Kabel vom MacBook ist viel zu lang und für 6 Gbit einfach nicht geeignet. Beide SSDs laufen in einen Mac Mini der über die identische Hardware verfügt fehlerfrei - da sind die Sata Kabel auch nur ein paar Zentimeter lang. Als Seitenhieb auf die Apple Ingenieure - hätte man die Festplatte um 180 Grad verbaut, hätte man auch im Macbook ein funktionierendes kurzes Kabel nutzen können.Nun zu diesem wirklich tollen Adapterkit das meine Hoffnungen voll erfüllt:Es passt einfach alles perfekt - also Superdrive ausgebaut, in das externe Gehäuse eingelegt - da ist nichts zum schrauben - und den metallenen Bodendecken einschnappen lassen. Wie herum ist nicht auf Anhieb klar, aber es ist auf einer Seite ein halbrunder Ausschnitt zu erkennen und der korrespondiert mit dem USB Kabel... Das DVD Laufwerk funktioniert problemlos und zieht die CDs ein und wirft sie auch ohne "hakeln" wieder aus. Ein kleiner Aufkleber "hinten" oder "USB Kabel" wäre vielleicht hilfreich für weniger technisch Versierte?Nachdem mir klar war, dass ich die SSD am internen SATA Port nicht zum laufen bekommen werden, wurde sie eben in diesen Adapter eingebaut. Das SATA Flachbandkabel vom Mac ist keine zwei Zentimeter lang und es sollte einfach klappen. Genau so war es dann auch. Die SSD - auch die Crucial die am Festplattenport gar nicht erst erkannt wurde, läuft völlig problemlos in diesem Adaper und das mit 6 Gbit SATA III...Dieser Adapter ist also definitiv SATA III fähig und man sollte entgegen manchen Hinweisen eine SSD in diesem Adapter setzen und nicht anstelle der Festplatte in deren Platz. Ich bin jedenfalls vollkommen zufrieden und habe die neue SSD einfach mit der Original HDD per Fusion Drive zu einem Laufwerk zusammengefasst.Sorry - etwas viel Text für eine Produkt Rezension, aber so wird der Wert des Produktes erst so richtig deutlich....

Habe ein MacBook Pro middle 2012 und hatte Speicherplatzprobleme und am Anfang auch nur eine HHD mit 750GB, diese habe ich bereits vor längerer Zeit ausgewchselt und gegen eine Samsung SSD mit 500GB getauscht. Da diese aber sehr schnell voll war musste ich was ändern und da bot sich dieser Adapter perfekt an. Es gibt auch noch ein Konkurrenzprodukt von "hardwrk" das um einiges teurer ist. Ob es besser ist kann ich nicht beurteilen da ich nur dieses Bauteil hatte.Die Montage klappt allerdings Problemlos, man sollte allerdings keine zwei linken Hände haben und sich vorher zum Beispiel bei Youtube ein Video ansehen. Da gibt es viele, die meisten leider auf englisch aber das kriegt man denke ich auch so hin.Der Schraubendreher hat eigentlich eine gute Qualität und liegt gut in der Hand, allerdings sind die Bits leider nicht magnetisch, somit empfehle ich zusätzlich noch eine Pinzette oder ähnliches um die Schrauben einfacher in die kleinen Schlitze einzuführen und zum lösen des Akkusteckers bzw. des Bauteils oberhalb des Laufwerkes ein Plastiktool wie zum Beispiel beim wechsel vom Handyakkus beiliegt, damit tut man sich finde ich etwas leichter als mit dem Plastiktool das hier dabei liegt. Geht aber ebenfalls.Wenn man mit System zerlegt gibt es auch keine Probleme bei der anschließenden Montage. Es handelt sich nicht um sehr viele Schrauben im Inneren.Einbauzeit waren bei mir zirka 20 MinutenDas interne DVD Laufwerk anschließend noch in die Hülle gesteckt (falls bestellt) und fertig ist das MacBook mit extra Speicher. Einziger Nachteil den ich feststellen konnte - die neuen Bauteile incl. Festplatte sind schwerer als das DVD-Laufwerk. Allerdings nicht extrem und noch im Rahmen.Bei mir wurde das DVD - Laufwerk erkannt sobald ich eine DVD eingelegt habe, im Internet habe ich was gelesen das man über das "Terminal" einen Befehl ausführen muss das das MacBook das Laufwerk als externes Laufwerk erkennt, dieses Problem hatte ich zum Glück nicht aber auch hier gibt es genügend Anleitungen.Ich würde es jederzeit wieder machen, allerdings würde ich den Austausch machen wenn man wirklich Zeit hat sodass man keinen Stress bekommt oder hektisch wird.Ich habe anschließend aus meiner SSD und der 1TB HDD noch ein Fusion Drive Laufwerk konfiguriert. Jetzt hab ich somit eine 1,5TB Festplatte und die Performance legte deutlich zu. Kann ich nur jeden empfehlen. Dazu würde ich allerdings dringst empfehlen vorher ein Backup anzulegen um alle Datein und Einstellungen zu sichern.Wenn ich euch helfen konnte würde ich mich über ein "gefällt mir" freuen.
