Star Trek: Picard - Season Two
R**D
A Solid Season for Picard!
“Star Trek: Picard” Season 2 picks up shortly after the events of the first season, with Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) returned to Starfleet and the Federation welcoming artificial life forms with Soji Asha (Isa Briones) helping them ease into the Federation along with Agnes Jurati (Alison Pill). Cristóbal Rios (Santiago Cabrera) has similarly returned to Starfleet, serving as the captain of the new U.S.S. Stargazer. Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) continues to provide aid on the frontier as a Ranger and the captain of the La Sirena. Elnor (Evan Evagora) has followed Raffi Musiker’s (Michelle Hurd) lead, joining Starfleet. For their part, Seven and Raffi are in the early stages of a relationship.A mysterious signal summons Picard to a first contact situation, where the Borg appear and begin seizing control of the Stargazer and other ships of the fleet. Picard orders the ship to self-destruct, but finds himself awakening back at his winery where the world is vastly different. He must find the other members of his crew to figure out what happened to create a fascist Earth that conquers the stars. Unlike the Mirror Universe, this is a world that was not always dark, but rather something crucial changed. They find that this is Q’s (John de Lancie) doing and take a Borg Queen (Annie Wersching) scheduled for execution to travel back in time and fix the past. They find the year 2024 with all the inequality of our current world of 2022. One of Picard’s ancestors will soon leave on a mission to Europa, which will play a key role in restoring hope and helping make possible the changes necessary for Zefram Cochrane’s flight in 2063. While there, Picard must confront his own past while his crew copes with the commonplace brutality of our era and the losses they experienced in the short time from the anomaly’s appearance to their time travel. Q is shaping events for his own unknown purposes, the Borg Queen wants to assimilate Agnes Jurati, and Adam Soong (Brent Spiner) – an ancestor of Dr. Noonien Soong, Data’s creator – is experimenting with eugenics through his daughter, Kore Soong (Isa Briones). The result is a story that gets to the heart of the moral issues Picard first explored in “The Next Generation” and continues to explore in his own series. Further, these seasons resemble the TOS films in that they serve as a chance for the characters to address their sense of things left unfinished now that they’re feeling the effects of age. While the TNG films continued the story forward and were enjoyable, they did not have this same reflective tone that the time between TOS and the TOS films created. Here, we see that and it works to the series’ advantage. The series includes extensive references to established Trek canon, including the supervisors like Gary Seven who first appeared in the TOS episode “Assignment: Earth,” the Eugenics Wars and their Soong-family connection from the TOS episode “Space Seed” and the ENT episode “Borderland,” as well as little callbacks to DS9 with character names and the reference to Sanctuary Districts that first appeared in the DS9 episode “Past Tense.” Bonus features on this Blu-ray collection include featurettes, a gag reel, and deleted scenes.

Gene Is Still Turning In His Grave.
This is a review for Star Trek: Picard - Season TwoI know that our dear departed Gene Roddenberry is not just turning in his grave, but he is crying too.I have been a huge fan of all the Star Trek series and movies since the original series premiered on NBC back in the '60s. I have loved them all so much that I have purchased them all on DVD and BluRay. Some of the critics over the years have not been too kind with a couple of the series, but I didn't care what they said. I am a Trekkie through and through.I have been forced to take a different opinion since the newer movies and series came out following what is now known as "The Kelvin Timeline". Star Trek is now in the hands of a whole new generation that caters to the violence and dark characters found in most of the more popular video games of the day. This is what is happening to all of the best action and sci-fi franchises.Gene Roddenberry had a vision of the future that everyone could only hope for. Star Trek series and movies always followed the same successful formula that made it famous. Gene produced a future that had genius technology and a very positive outlook. It was aimed at the entire family - all ages. Earth had finally learned its lessons and became an example of paradise. We no longer had greed and hunger for power. We had become an example of peace through strength. If someone picked a battle, we could fight back and still represent what it means to be human.Well..... Gene's dream child is now dead and gone. The new (KELVIN) series and movies have changed what Star Trek stands for. Being a big fan of "Next Generation", I was hoping that this new series "Picard" would retain the flavor of the older Star Trek. But it seems that the Picard series is also a part of the Kelvin Timeline which I find very disappointing. They have substituted the original fun and positive examples for brutal violence and cheap special effects that look like poor quality video games. It is no longer for the whole family to watch together.Star Trek: Picard is 10 episodes per season. But they are shown as one 8 hour continuous movie that is shown in 10 little pieces. Each episode takes the opening 5 minutes to remind you of what has already happened up to that point. In every episode, a good guy is brutally murdered by swords or knives or some horrible way to go. The special effects are exaggerated to a point where they look like really bad video game effects. Remember when going to Warp speed was a a build up of visual color and streaks then they took off. You could see the stars flying by in the viewer. Going to Warp speed is now in the snap of a finger. No building you up to it. And once they are at warp, the viewer just shows a white mist flying by and nothing else. The 8 hour story is dragged out over 10 episodes like a poorly written soap opera. There is so much unnecessary and wasted filler that you may find yourself reaching for the FF button on the remote several times. If you do, you won't miss anything. The entire 8 hour season could have been cut down to 2.5 or maybe 3 hours, and it would have been just as good. The cast is a good one and Picard is still an old fart but a smart one with a good heart. It was nice to see some of the older characters again like Seven Of Nine, Riker and Deana married with children, and a few other old surprises. I was glad to see Wesley Crusher in a very pleasant cameo near the end. We even get a few questions from the old series answered. My main disappointment is that the entire season is story that was caused by the obnoxious and disgusting villan "Q" played of course by John De Lancie. I always hated episodes with him in them. But it seems that all of the Sci-Fi and action franchises since the 21st century began have all changed. Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and yes, Star Trek have all lost the family fun and positive aspect, and turned them into cheap and very dark video games to attract a younger audience that only enjoys violence, hard rock music and cheap fast special effects. They have all strayed away from what made them unique and fun so they can appeal to the dumbed down younger audiences. For me, Star Trek ended with the film Nemesis and the series Enterprise. And Gene Roddenberry's dream ended with them. So far the Picard series season 1 & 2 are worth watching once or twice for something different and to see some of the old "Trek" characters back in action. But if you are a true Trekkie like me, you will find many disappointments.

It’s different, but it’s Star Trek
Aside from the plot and story, I won’t say much and let you have your own thoughts on it. But this season brought another iconic character and actually kept the character somewhat as the original. As well as brining back the epic hostile species (even though I was hoping for something more) of the franchise. The franchise took a different route from the original, but it’s still fascinating to watch. Would recommend for die hard fans.

Better than Season 1
I like Picard in this season 2 and I like the story better even though I am not a fan of time travel. But it was interesting that they went back to 2024 to change the timeline that "Q" altered. Interesting to see Guinan on earth in 2024. We have 7 of 9, Brent Spiner as Adam Soong and the Borg Queen who gets them back to 2024. But my favorite is a new character - Agnes Jurati who made her first appearance in season 1. I loved 7 of 9 driving a police cruiser. Even though this story line as been done before, this was interesting and entertaining. Patrick Stewart at 82 is getting old. It does have a predictable ending though.

Best season yet
I liked season two better than season one. Some deep secrets about Picard are revealed to him and the audience. Some fun new characters are added. Two words I love-time travel.
