Q: How does this product compare to the Ulu Factory Alaska Cutlery ulu knife and bowl that cost twice as much?

We have used both and found this just as good. The bowl is not as heavy and the knife is not as attractive but from a utilitarian point of view they are very similar.

Q: I've had this style of chopper before. Very useful. My question is what kind of wood is the bowl made of? Specifically is it hard enough not to shred?

It is BUT I bought this to replace one I had bought in Alaska and the bowl is much shallower - I do not particularly care for it.

Q: are these made in china?

I wish they weren't , I have 2 of them. They work very well for me. I did not know they were made in China when I brought. They are sold in tourist shop in Alaska I hope Alaska makes money on them. I brought refurbish at a great price an they came in excellent condition.

Q: love this ulu and board i bought 6 mos ago. banged it on my sink and it split in half. is there some way i can get a replacement board only?
