Very good line but recommend replacing every year.
This tie-out is sturdy and well-made except it is subject to rusting and breaking after several months of exposure to harsh weather. Although some say the clasp is awkward to use, I find that the construction also makes it almost impossible for a dog to roll around and open it as long as it is closed fully and not broken. I have a very strong and active 45 pound terrier mix who yanks hard on the line when she sees deer, squirrels, bear, or the UPS truck, and the line and clasp hold securely. Because of the sturdiness of these elements, I continue to buy the product. My dog is five years old and I am now on my fourth line. The clasp on the first two lines rusted and would no longer close. The third line rusted through, despite the impressive rubber coating and broke two feet from the clasp. All three times my dog took off and led me on a three hour tracking adventure. Therefore, I recommend that if you use this good product, that you replace it every year before you have a problem, unless the manufacturer comes up with a way to fix the rusting problem.

Great until now
I have bought many of these over time as I have multiple dogs and they have been great! Bought this one yesterday and this morning the snap at the swivel point has broke already 😔

Strong but best to change every 4-6mths
This product is very strong & the best I've found yet to hold my 3yr old, 85-90lb, German Shepherd. However, it will typically last about 4-6 months effectively. Any longer & it simply is NOT reliable. My dog truly puts this product to the test when she chases our cat while on the tie-out. She runs full force to the length of the line where she abruptly stops at the end of 15ft. Also, I always attach a special spring at the tie-out end of the line which helps her so she won't break her neck. She never stops this daily behavior of strong abrupt stops & it doesn't seem to be hurting her neck but it's clear that this is testing the strength of the line & the fasteners. Every day I visually inspect the full line for breaks, rust & other deficiencies before I attach the line to her collar. I've purchased about 5 or 6 of these lines & after 4-6mths has passed with a new line, the line either breaks at the crimps or at the metal fasteners. The fasteners have broken in one of several spots but usually at the opposite end of the fastener where it attaches to the line (see photo). The sturdy clasps/fasteners are the safest I've ever used (quite easy to use after a bit), I can't find these clasps on a similar product anywhere & the line itself is not the best on the market but as long as you inspect the line before leaving your dog on it, that will help a lot to keep your dog safer. Nothing is 100% safe but I think it's important to inspect things I use for my dog just as I would make sure my child is in a safe place & with safe toys. Also, I always keep a spare on hand just in case, which has been a lifesaver. Thankfully, when the line broke the last 4 times, I was outside in the yard & could intervene quickly.

A must for large strong dogs
Great spring loaded hooks, very strong cable. Not recommended for smaller dogs.

Toughest Tie-Out I've Found
I have a team of sleddogs. Some are calmer than others, but all of them are hyper, sometimes crazy, and strong enough to snap almost any tie-out I put them on. This is the toughest tie out I've found. I usually change my tie-out ropes every 3 to 4 months. This one lasts about 6 months with my biggest and toughest dogs. But they do a lot of pulling, tugging, biting, and twisting- so 6 months in Alaskan weather (really cold temps make metal brittle) is literally the best I've ever had. The clips are really tough and hold with super strength. For the price it's definitely worth it. I have about a 60 pound wolf hybrid that stays heald with this. And I have a crazy little malimute (only about 40 pounds) who will break any other tie out I put her on- but this one holds her just fine. Toughest tie-out I've found. I'd highly recommend it to anyone with big dogs. Well worth the price.

If you have anything in its way it will eventually break and snap no matter size of the dog
It's great to start but if there's anything in the way where the dog can keep moving and rub against it it kinks and it will snap

Heavy duty. Over all its great. I do have a couple minor complaints about the dog tie. Keep in mind that I would highly recommend this dog tie to anyone.I got this because I do not have a fenced in yard, thus my dog must be tied up outside. My only complaint is the clasp is really heavy, thus it pulls on my dog's collar a lot. Also the clasps are designed to be undone by pulling the mechanism out, this makes the clip more resistant to a dog's pulling on it, but it makes it difficult to unhook the dog.

Not trustworthy, not weather resistant
UPDATE: Approximately 1 month into cold and snowy weather, 9+ months after I purchased this item it broke. My 65lb dog was found several houses down; he had snapped this chain in half. He probably chewed it some, and maybe started to rust in spots where rain got in, but it still shows this is a weak chain. I would not trust it with a large breed dog, I got extremely lucky and noticed my dog was gone probably minutes after it happened, otherwise my dog may be permanently missing or dead. Considering it only lasted 9 months and my trust in it could've killed my dog : 2 stars is pretty generous.I will say just make sure you check the whole length of your chain regularly and any small cuts or holes will soon rust and give a dog 1/4 the weight limit of the chain the ability to break it... For the money it should've lasted longer under normal usage, there's nothing I could've done differently to prolong it's life. Additionally almost the entire clasp/clip part of it rusted within 1 month of snow, and made it much more difficult to open up in sub freezing temperatures.ORIGINAL REVIEW:My dog is only 65-75lbs but he's broken two chains already. I think both of those chains got rusty and weakened after a winter/snowy season. He loves to get a full running start as he chases something he see's and pull on this with of his weight and speed. Hopefully this one holds out this winter, I'll update otherwise. It's about twice as thick as the others and the outer coating over the chain seems more flexible, thicker, and less brittle then the other two I've had (once the cover breaks open it lets the elements in and starts rusting the chain). I definitely recommend this chain if you have problems with your large dog breaking the tie out chains.
