Boss PetPrestige 20ft Small Dog Tie Out

Well After 4 months since I purchased this......Review day 7-1-21
My Grand-Pug Elvis needed a new tie out. I decided to go with this one... {He is now living with me.} I thought it would be great.. { I thought WRONG} This thing curls up he gets mostly a back leg all tangled and twisted up and he looks like Ethyl { my pig} has managed to hog tied him :-( { Yes they are very close to one another and have become very good friends actually} Though they are not in the same enclosure. He is just on the other side of hers. He wears a harness that he is hooked up to. He is never hooked up to a collar. { sorry, I feel the need to explain things a little for all those that like to be so judgmental and like to jump all over every animal owner that doesn't do things like they do. I have to do what works for me and my animals.}This poor dog got so tangled up in this thing, I thought he was going to die because he was not able to get to his water. I do go out and check on my animals every 1-2 hours.{ This was the first time he got tangled up that bad.} He is of course in a really good shaded area in the yard. I can't bring him in because he likes having a piddle on everything in site. Even though he was fixed as a puppy. { COMPLETE and TOTAL waste of money in his case } anyway... He gets this thing twisted up on his leg on a regular basis. Luckily, I go out to check on all of my babies about 8-10 times daily.. After using this for less than 4 months it is starting to break now. I would not recommend this tie out for anyone for any breed of dog simply because you could potentially be risking his or her life due to the curling of the tie out and dogs legs getting all twisted up in it. I believe I will just invest in some sort of fencing for him so he will not have to be attached to anything. He is not a big digger really... I think this would be the best option for him.Update 7-2-21 I ordered 2 play pen fences today {They are about 40 bucks each on Amazon. I got two for that price on JewettCameron.com} I am going to put them together to make the area for him because , when I went out to feed my chickens, ducks pig,& dogs. I discovered Elvis had gotten tangled up AGAIN. his back left leg was so tangled up he could not move!!! The tie out that his leg was really swollen badly! I don't know how long he was like this. It definitely cut off the circulation in his leg and foot. He could not walk for a few hours once I got him untangled. I kid you not it took me 5 minutes to untangle it. At least for now he is chillin in his doghouse, Maybe he will just go to and from his food & water bowls and piddle and a poo and back to his doghouse until the pens arrive. I will just have to go out and check on him every couple of hours throughout the day and night until it gets here, for sure! . { Praying they get here really soon. I may see how well He and my pig get on in the pen with her } PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS BLOODY TIE OUT FOR YOUR DOG~ This thing should NOT even be sold anywhere in the world!!! IT IS BAD NEWS.

Great tie-out
This Prestige 20ft Small Dog Tie Out is perfect for small dogs like my Doxie. The last one of these served for several years before the cable covering hardened and cracked (UV damage), which allowed the cable to kink, rust, and break. Quality clasps with swivels keep the cable from twisting. This cable is as flexible as poly rope, without memory of being coiled. My Doxie doesn't even know it's there, until he runs to the end of it!

After 8 months, my 6 lb. Poodle broke ...
After 8 months, my 6 lb. Poodle broke the hardware clip in half. While the cable itself is very strong, the clips are made of very cheap metal that is, I'm afraid, doomed to failure. I'm currently looking for replacement hardware that is made of stronger stuff and a way to crimp the cable to attach it. I know I gave my little one a tough name but Mighty Mouse he isn't.

Horrible curling up
If you only have one dog, then this may or may not work out fine. But I have two. And the moment they got their leads crossed together, it was all over. This lead curls up like the worst I've ever seen. And once they curl up, they stay curled up. It's going into the garbage and I'm going to buy a much thicker cable instead.

Broke after a few weeks.
So this package actually comes with two parts -- the long green lead and a shorter metal chain piece. Both parts have broken since I got it. First, one of the little nubs that allows you to open and close the hook on the green lead broke -- I was OK using my nail to open it but that was inconvenient. Then a few weeks later, my 20lb dog managed to break the chain park completely and got loose. While I can put up with little, non-essential breaks from something cheap (that's expected) when the item can't perform its main purpose -- keep my dog attached to something -- the item is worthless.

Bad Clasps
This size line is perfect for toy breeds, but the clasps are extremely difficult to open to hook on a collar or harness. Straight out of the package, I almost had to ask my husband for help. I thought it was welded shut for a minute. I purchased two and all the clasps were this way.

Definitely DO NOT exceed the weight limit!!!! VERY Light Duty clasp on each end!!
Boss Pet - Prestige 12ft Small Dog Tie Out Prestige 12 foot Small Dog Tie Out]]I have two of these.BOTH of them have broken clasps.Definitely DO NOT exceed the weight limit!!!!VERY Light Duty clasp on each end, with a VERY weak spring. A little pressure is all it takes for your dog to get loose because of the light duty clasp and weak spring!!I also have also have the 20 foot version of this. The same issue with the clasp applies. All my dogs are Chihuahua mixes.

It is a great product, and without it
If I hadn't ruined a part of it by mowing over it, I'd be a bigger fan. That's not the product's fault. It is a great product, and without it, I'd have to rely on a leash for my front yard. It even is small enough to fit under my front door, so I can use tie my pup up before letting him out as he tends to escape otherwise. Works fine for my 18 pound shih tzu althoguh he is probably at the heavier end of the weight range for this small one.
