Verbatim Blu-ray Re-Writable 50 gig Dual-Layer Discs - 2nd Layer Unusable
I have been using my new LG Electronics External Blu-ray/DVD Writer with M-DISC Support (Model BE16NU50 ) to write to the Verbatim Blu-ray Re-Writable 50 gig Dual-Layer discs. 10 Verbatim Bluray Bd-re Dl 50 Gb Rewritable Blueray Original Spindle I have also used it to write to the Verbatim M-Disc Blu-ray (Write once) Dual-Layer 50GB disc.So far, I've attempted to write to 3 of the Verbatim Blu-ray Re-Writable 50 gig Dual-Layer discs. The first one worked fine, but it required much less than 25 gig - so it only wrote to one layer of the disc. The next one was to write (using ImgBurn ver. 2.5.7) 42gig of data to the 50gig dual layer re-writable disc. The write process completed. Then, on the write-verification function, it had so many un-correctable read errors during the verification process that I just had to abandon it. It appeared the read errors were occurring on the second layer of the disc (based on the sector numbers reported by ImgBurn). I decided to try it again with a new Verbatim Blu-ray Re-Writable 50 gig Dual-Layer disc. I inspected the disc closely under a bright light to search for any obvious aberrations in the surface before inserting it into the LG Blu-ray writer. I did not find any. I tried performing the same 42gig data file copy to the disc. Once again, the write portion completed, but when the verification process got to the 2nd layer, it began reporting un-correctable read errors on almost every sector. (It started out with some readable areas, but then had uncorrectable read errors on every sector. As I write this, it has now gone through verifying 388,895 sectors with about as many un-correctable read errors as sectors.) I will abandon this disc writing operation after I finish this review.I think it is important to note that I used the same LG Blu-ray writer to write a Verbatim M-Disc Blu-ray (Write once) Dual-Layer 50GB disc. The total amount of data written to the disc was about 46gig - using both layers. I used the same ImgBurn version 2.5.7 application to write to the disc and to verify the write. It wrote and verified the dual-layer disc without reporting any errors in the verification process. At this point, I'm guessing that the Verbatim Blu-ray Re-Writable 50 gig Dual-Layer discs can only be used to write to the first layer - which makes them a 25 gig capacity for me. I am very disappointed in the Verbatim Blu-ray Re-Writable 50 gig Dual-Layer discs.I no longer have to guess about this dual-layer disc not writing to the second layer. I took the 2 discs (used above) that failed to work on a 42gig attempt to backup files and used them to backup appx. 21gig per disc on the same LG Electronics External Blu-ray/DVD Writer with M-DISC Support (Model BE16NU50 ). This time ImgBurn burned both discs with verification. I'm assuming this scaled-down attempt worked because the files were able to all be written on just the first layer of the 50 gig dual-layer discs. For me, these have become expensive "25 gig" storage discs! I do not recommend them.

A very good BD-RE disk.
I use these primarily for archival storage and system backups. I like that I can reformat and then reuse them when my backups are outdated, typically in a year or so after recording. Each disk has a large capacity (about 47.4 GB). They do require a Bluray burner, but the cost of such burners has come down considerably in recent years. My only real disappointment is that they must be formatted before their initial use and must be reformatted prior to their reuse, a process that can take a few hours (however, this is a limitation of the technology and is common to all such rewritable media). In the final analysis, they are effective and much more reliable than some of the competitor products.

Very pleased.
First 5 disks produced data disks that verified perfectly! Have had lots of trouble with other brands of Blu-ray disks.Update 11/30/2014:I have now been able to use all 10 disks successfully including verification of data. Two disks required one or more erase cycles before they would succeed record and verification. I am recording with a BUFFALO MediaStation BDXL Portable Blu-Ray Writer - BRXL-PC6U2B, and before I tried these disks I was considering returning the drive because other Blu-Ray media had high failure rates.

Formatted and filled two discs to capacity twice and both functioned flawlessly.
The BD-RE DL 50 Gb discs functions well with the LG - WH16NS40 (Firmware version: 1.02 - A0) internal Blu-ray drive that I purchased 3.5 years ago. No errors reported after full format / copy / verify operations performed twice on two different discs. Software used to burn: ImgBurn (V. 2.8.0).So far I am happy with this purchase because it functions as advertised :)I also like plain white printing space. The brand name and capacity is written in small letters only once on the outside edge of the disc: "Verbatim BD-RE DL for VIDEO 50GB 2X".I will update this Review if any of the other discs fail.

Works As Expected
2nd layer of dual layer disc produces errors. This happened on all discs I tried. My hardware recognizes it as a dual layer but the second layer just doesn’t work.Update: I saw another review that said they needed to go through the format (full erase, zeroing out, whatever your software calls it) process several times before the second layer worked. I tried this and all is good now

Excellent delivery
The discs arrived a week before the estimated delivery date. I have written to 2 discs now and at x2 it takes an awfully long time if the file size is close to 50GB, but as expected. Unable to comment on the longevity as this will depend on the number of re-writes.
